Cutest K-Pop Idols, 'Who's Your Favorite?'

Wonder Girls Sohee is the princess of cute. Ever since she stumbled into our hearts with her "omona" dance move in "Tell Me," she's been captivating fans with her adorable-ness one day at a time. Sohee's most physically adorable attribute is her chipmunk cheeks and while she can pull off sexy and classy, it's Sohee's cuteness that we all love and adore.
B.A.P's Zelo may be fierce in the most manly way possible, there's something positively adorable about this youngster. Perhaps it's because he hasn't fully gone through puberty yet that just makes me want to grab his cheeks and pinch his nose, but the baby idol is definitely a cutie pie.
2NE1's Dara may be in the fiercest group in K-pop, but the naturally beautiful singer is known for her quirky humor propelling her straight into the why-are-you-so-darn-adorable zone. You can always catch the singer being all kinds of funny on "2NE1 TV" with her strange yet endearing antics.
Something about KARA Goo Hara makes me want to jump into a pool of teddy bears and lollipops. Perhaps it's her big perrrrty eyes that makes her such a cutie, but whatever it may be, she's definitely got something that puts her at the top of the cute chain.
BEAST's Yoseob always reminds me of a hobbit and I mean that in the most heart-warming way. Everything about this boy's facial features, smile, and aegyo just always gets me feeling all kinds of fuzzy inside like when I watch Frodo in the Shire in "Lord of the Rings," frolicking around with his friends. Yoseob happens to be my favorite member of BEAST and is the most fun to watch on the stage, so cheer up about my hobbit comment Yoseob, you are definitely a cutie pie!
Big Bang's Daesung gets me in a cute mood every time I see him on a talk show or entertaining folks with his single, "Big Hit." Ever since I saw him in "Family Outing," I fell in love with his likeability, his manners, and his dorky smile. While the rest of the members in his group always remain calm, cool, and collected, Daesung is definitely a breath of fresh cute air.

Actress Han Hye Jin has finally confirmed the day that she will tie the knot with soccer player Ki Sung Yong to be July 1st!

Han Hye Jin shared on her Twitter on the 28th, "It's Hye Jin. It's been a while since I greeted you.^^ The thing that I told you I wanted to say about my wedding last time through Twitter, I can now breathe a sigh of relief as I tell you.^^ I will get married on July 1st. We will promise each other to let no one or nothing come between us as we become one as a married couple."

"It is true that we decided to tie the knot recently. The only time we are able to get married is during Ki Sung Yong's time off period. If we don't do it this year, we would have to push it off until next year and we thought it would be the best time to do it before his next important season."

"The wedding ceremony will be held at the Intercontinental Hotel on July 1st at 7 PM KST. The ceremony will be led by Seoul Dream Church's pastor Joshua Kim and the congratulatory song will be sung by Yangpa. We met with each other's families a few days ago so we haven't taken our wedding pictorial yet. Our honeymoon is still undecided, and my fiance would have to return to his team for training the very next day. After finishing my filming schedule for the film, 'When A Man Loves', and 'Healing Camp' at the end of July, I decided to go to where my husband will be."

As her husband-to-be plays soccer in the U.K., it seems most likely that the actress will have to leave her permanent MC position on 'Healing Camp'. BEAST Is (Coming) Back! New Single, Album, Concert and Fan Project

Cube Entertainment announced via their official website on Monday that their popular six-member boy band, Beast, is gearing up for a comeback in July.
Beast had their last release in July 2012, their sixth EP, Midnight Sun, and fans have been waiting nearly a year for something new.
The CEO of Cube Entertainment, Hong Seung-seong, reported that the group would indeed make their comeback sometime in July and that the first performance of the new album's title track will be at an exclusive concert.
The message from Hong read, "B2ST's upcoming album, to be released in July, will be performed for the first time onstage at B2ST's exclusive concert to be held in the same month."
He explained the reasoning behind this special comeback plan by continuing, "Their music, which shines more brightly onstage, will kick off with a concert so that B2UTYs will be the ones to see it first."
Not many other details have been revealed about the nature of this upcoming album, but the Cube Entertainment CEO did say, "Many passionate debates, designs and fun ideas have been thrown out regarding the comeback and are still going on, so make sure you don't let go of your anticipation."
There is no word yet on a specific date for the album's release or concert, but fans needn't wait much longer - the group will pre-release the song "Will It Be Okay" on Wednesday as a digital single. The song was composed by member Yong Jun-hyung and will reportedly involve some rather dramatic sentiments.
The pre-release is part of a two-fold project plan for the comeback. The second part will be the start of a 'B2UTY More' project beginning in June. Hong also mentioned that Beast will hold a special fan meeting next month to preview the new record.
It seems the agency and the Beast members are preparing for a fan-oriented comeback, perhaps as a way to thank B2UTYs for all their patience since the last album.
Hong's message also said, "The members have been working hard in their own areas even after their last album release. They always aim to become better people, and this is why we had to tie up all their remaining knots in order to move on further rather than hastily take another new step, though it took us a long time to do so."
And B2UTYs are prepared and anxious for the comeback of their beloved idols. Already with a huge international fan following, we can expect a matured, more powerful new album from Beast, one that will hopefully thrust them further into the global mainstream.
A sentiment also regarded by Cube's CEO, "The B2ST members are healthier than any ordinary Korean men, but with the upcoming album we aim to give them a new turning point that will sharpen not only their physical conditions, but also their content, and let them fly high on their abilities as global stars."

How Can A K-Pop Artist Break Into The US Mainstream And Who Has The Best Chance Of Doing So?

Technically Psy has already done it - both "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman" had significant Top 40 radio play in the United States and he is about as ubiquitous as anyone could ever hope to be, the most popular Korean arguably of all time.
However, due to the nature of his music, and the comical personality that goes along with it, it is still arguable whether or not his unique brand of K-Pop broke into the American mainstream, or whether his character did.
In the K-Pop universe there are scads of talented idols working extremely hard just to make their music well-known in South Korea, let alone across the globe.
The Asian market seems like the most accessible overseas venture, and many singers first go off on promotional tours in places like Japan, China, and southeast Asia. Even mega groups like Super Junior and Girls' Generation have managed to corner large numbers of fans in markets outside of Asia, in Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
But the US market remains the holdout.
The United States already has an incredibly thriving pop music industry of its own, one that is full of diversity and originality, making it incredibly difficult for the American population to accept foreigners into the airwaves. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Despite being a "nation of immigrants," the entertainment industry in the US is not very diverse, and people of color, or especially those without perfect English skills, tend to be type-casted into their own niche roles.
This is where Psy comes in again. He can speak English, which makes him widely accessible to the American masses, but he represents this cultural notion that Asians are cute, colorful, and comedic - not exactly the kind of people the music industry can take too seriously.
This misnomer will prove to be the greatest challenge for any Korean artist looking to really make it in the US.
In order to really do it, a Korean singer must strike the delicate balance between being accessible to the masses yet different enough to stand out and make an impression. Psy, in this case, managed to lock down these two elements, but the recipe was a little off and it turned campy.
In the past, there have been several others who have made valiant efforts to release music for the mainstream American audience, the Wonder GirlsBoA, and Se7en most notably. And while their music made a brief splash, the efforts were ultimately unsuccessful and they returned to Korea.
In these cases, it was the opposite of Psy's overboard approach - the music itself was not all that different from what already exists in the US and the promotion tactics left something to be desired.
Consider other international acts who have seen widespread praise and fame in the States recently - Adele, One Direction, Shakira, Gotye - they have all brought something new and refreshing to the table.
Adele rekindled our love of blues and One Direction revived the boy band with a modern spin, not to mention both acts have the benefit of English as a first language.
Shakira came onto the scene with sex-appeal and creative original songs that have been praised for being a swirling fusion of many different musical elements.
Gotye had a major hit song, "Somebody That I Used to Know," but since then the Belgian-Australian singer-songwriter has all but fallen off the US music industry's radar. Gotye's one-hit success can be attributed to the fact that while that single was new and interesting, his musical style is not that difficult to find already existing in the US market.
Creating something original, getting it out to the public in just the right way, and ultimately speaking English very well seems to be the trifecta for success in the US and the biggest obstacles for a Korea artist to overcome.
So who could legitimately do it?
When this question was posed at a panel discussion about the nature and future of K-Pop in New York City on May 22, the experts in attendance had their own ideas.
Jeff Yang, a columnist for the Wall Street Journal with over a decade experience writing about Asian media and entertainment, said he would put his money on 2NE1. Yang explained his choice by praising the four-member girl group for having a very unique style. They would not be seen as a novelty act and "given the right music, they could do it." Yang also pointed out that the can speak English, which is a big plus.
Billboard's resident K-Pop expert, Jeff Benjamin, suggested Big Bang leader G-Dragon as a K-Pop artist who could make it in the US and offered a comparison to make his point.
"G-Dragon is like Nicki Minaj. He has a big personality and definitely has the talent," said Benjamin. How he sees it happening - "Thrown on a remix, then a single - it could be interesting."
Johnny Noh, a popular K-Pop new blog founder, suggested that "Americans would take G-Dragon as a poser," and suggested Girls' Generation instead. "Nine girls on a stage... where can you see that?"
All speculation aside, the challenge of breaking the US mainstream continues to hang over many of the K-Pop idols today and only time will tell if a legitimate crossover can really happen.

KDrama Realities: How KDrama Characters Differ From The Rest Of Us

When Shin Se Kyung's character developed a fever after getting rained on in a recent episode of "When A Man Loves," it served as a reminder that kdrama characters are not like the rest of us. How often do kdrama characters develop a fever after getting wet? Often. How often do you see this in real life? Rarely. Here's a few ways they differ from us non-fictional types.
Kdrama characters seem vulnerable and at the same time resilient. Getting wet, even for a few minutes, often results in a fever and yet they recover quickly. In "Personal Taste," Lee Min Ho is burning up with a fever, which he got from sleeping in a car for a few minutes. But once Son Ye Jin kisses him, he's fine.
And how about selective amnesia? It's pretty rare in real life, but kdrama characters get it all the time. They can remember one person but not another, some details about the past but not others. And in an instant their memory returns.
Ditto on comas. Kdrama characters can spend months in a coma and suddenly wake up completely coherent and as neat as if they just had their hair done.
They may wake up from a coma suddenly, but they will sleep through all sorts of things. Jo In Sung just assumed Song Hye Kyo would sleep through his kiss in "That Winter The Wind Blows" despite the fact that she had never been kissed. Kdrama characters sleep through having their face touched, having people fall on them, like Park Shin Hye falls on Jang Keun Suk in "You're Beautiful" and having people apply makeup, as in "Princess Hours." They should bottle that sleep potion.
Everyone in kdramas must have done track in high school because they assume they can chase down a bus, a cab or a runaway girlfriend. So, there's no need to finish the conversation you are having, because you can always chase after her and continue it.
Kdrama characters have poor peripheral vision since they can never see the person who is stalking them. Standing just around the corner, behind a person or parking your car next to them will not result in detection. And the simplest disguise, such as a hat or glasses will fool them. They are also bad at telling if a boy is really a girl.
And finally, Kdrama actors cry actual tears. People cry in real life all the time but how often do you see tears streaming down someone's face. Think Yoon Eun Hye and Park Yoo Chun in "Missing You." Those actors must have consumed bottles of water to prevent themselves from becoming dehydrated.
That said, kdrama characters are probably more interesting than many real people, so they are allowed to have their quirks. Can you think of any other ways kdrama characters differ from real people? Let us know.

EXO Kris Good Boy Gone Bad? Rumors Run Wild Leading Up To Group's Comeback

Lately there has been a lot of focus on the immense pressure K-Pop idols are under - members leaving their groups, extreme diets, plastic surgeries, scandals and rumors. Some idols have been outspoken, like f(x)'s Krystal in a recent interview, others seem to be suffering in silence.
And it is not just the entertainment agencies, fans have also been a little too hard on their favorite singers - expectations are high, perfection is demanded.
It seems like as we lead up to EXO's highly anticipated comeback at the end of the month, EXO-Mleader Kris has been the subject of the most recent internet rumors.

On May 24, according to Entertainment Radar on Nate News, that the leader of a popular idol group had momentarily left his group after declaring he "could not promote in a group any longer."
The article went on to say that the group's agency went through a rather difficult period trying to convince the singer to return, which he ultimately did.
Some industry insiders said, "He seems to have gone through a crisis after realizing that the reality of idol life is different from what he had dreamt of. Unlike the situation several years ago, idol groups haven't been receiving the same attention, which we believe played a part in his decision."
While the article did not name Kris as the artist of focus, the netizen responses soon started pouring in.
"EXO-M's leader Kris is a Chinese Canadian and he randomly went on hiatus to Canada without consulting anyone, which made the group delay their March comeback. The rest of the members practiced without Kris while he was gone. SM then persuaded him to finally come back, which is how EXO Is finally making their comeback," said one of the first comments - then the attacks poured in.
Just as with Krystal's recent comments about how the pressures of being an idol are making her miserable got a lot of negative remarks from netizens, Kris has also been criticized.
A lot of responders called for the agency to sue the singer for breaking his contract. Others have referred to the EXO-M leader as "selfish" and "irresponsible." Very few, however, have come to his defense.
Perhaps what is worse, Kris has gotten a rather unappealing nickname, "Kbalnom."  It is in reference to his name plus the word 'shibalnom,' which means 'bastard.'
There has, of course, been no confirmation from SM Entertainment that these rumors are indeed about Kris, and it is unlikely we will ever know the real truth. But with very little (if any) evidence to back them up, aren't netizens going a little too far?
Hopefully this new batch of rumors and hateful comments from internet users will not have a negative affect on EXO's comeback on May 30, but until then, we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Junhyung and BTOB members wonder what happens "After Time Passes" in MV for 'Monstar' OST

Though the song was released several days ago, B2ST's Junhyung and BTOBmembers' just released the music video for their OST from the drama they star in, 'Monstar'.

"After Time Passes" is the title track of the idol band in the drama, Men In Black. The song is a re-make of the English singer-songwriter Postino's hit and features a vintage sound with drum accompaniment, as well as the members' singing ability and heartfelt rapping. "After Time Passes" was heard as the song that consoled Sul Chan (Junhyung) after his confrontation with sasaeng fans on the premiere of 'Monstar'.

The MV is a classic 'scenes from the drama' style video. It helps that those scenes involve Junhyung and the BTOB members making it seem more like a video montage made especially for the song than a song slapped over some cuts of a drama.
