INFINITE's Sunggyu swept up in a controversy concerning his words directed towards women in their thirties + Woollim Entertainment responds

INFINITE's Sunggyu is receiving quite a backlash after his unfortunate choice of words revealed through a BTS video of tvN's 'Genius: Rules of the Game'.

In the video clip that was uploaded on the 26th, Park Eun JiLee Sang Min, and Sunggyu were seen discussing amongst themselves during the game.

In the video, Park Eun Ji told Lee Sang Min, "Isn't it difficult to make a living? Now that I've lived for 30 years, I'm realizing it is really not easy." Lee Sang Min replied, "Yeah true.. When a woman reaches the age of 30...", Sunggyu jumped in to complete his sentence, "You're right. She's a yomul."

'Yomul' is a term that means deceitful, sly, wicked, and when it's aimed towards women, it is a term that describes a woman who is good at luring in men for her benefit.

Woollim Entertaiment quickly responded, "It seems things have blown out of proportion. If you watch the video, Sunggyu didn't have bad intentions. He just said it at the time just going along with the atmosphere of the conversation. It was released in an exaggerated form."

'The Genius: Rules of the Game' have since made the video private after the controversy arose.

WBW: 10 New School Remakes of K-Pop Classics

One thing K-pop does really well is pay homage to the earlier generations of singers, especially since many of the older generation are directly influencing today's artists as producers or company heads. One of the best ways K-pop does this is by allowing the younger groups to cover and remake old hits. On today's Way Back Wednesday, we'll take a look at some of your favorite artists of today paying tribute to some of the best songs from yesterday. There are so many out there but these were just a few of my favorites but please add any I missed.

Big Bang - "Ha Yeo Ga" (original by Seo Taiji and Boys)
Not only is this a vintage song but this specific performance is vintage too because this is back in 2006 when Big Bang wasn't the rock stars that they are now. It all makes sense of course since YG head honcho Yang Hyun Suk was a member of the legendary Seo Taiji and Boys. I think Big Bang lives up to the high expectation with a pretty darn good performance. By the way, look at G-Dragon's glasses...

Original 1993 Performance:

KARA & Rainbow - "To My Boyfriend" (original by Fin.K.L)
A full on DSP tribute with current label mates KARA and Rainbow teaming up back in 2011 to perform the breakout hit of the original DSP idol girl group, Fin.K.L. You know, the two groups should join forces more often and create a Voltron-like hybrid group to dominate all other girl groups! An Uncle Fan's dream I suppose...

Original 1998 Performance:

Super Junior - "Happiness" (original by H.O.T)
Speaking of former label mates, Super Junior paid homage to the original idols andSM seniors H.O.T with this cover of the 1997 hit. I don't know exactly when Super Junior performed this but judging by their hair, it was probably quite a few years ago.

Original 1997 Performance:

Infinite H - "Come Back to Me" (original by Deux)
If you're a Pump it Up fan, you probably heard this one before. One of the best songs from the early days of hip hop was given its proper due by the boys of Infinite H. No one can really duplicate what members Lee Hyun Do and Kim Sung Jae did but Infinite H does a commendable job and you can never get too much of this great song.

Original 1993 Performance:

SECRET - "Why Are You Calling?" (original by Diva)
Back to a song that's more my generation. After the break up of Roo'Ra, memberChae Rina teamed up with Vicki and Jinny to form the trio back in 1997. The lovely ladies of SECRET covered the song on 'Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook' during a special episode called "youth night" and featuring songs from back in the day. Basically, tailored made for old guys like me.

Original 1998 Performance:

Teen Top - "I'm Not Stopping" (original by Zam)
So, I always talk about how much I love old school music but this song is old, I was in elementary school when it first came out back in 1992. Zam was among the first, if not the first, idol dance group in K-pop debuting from DSP over 20 years ago. The group was also unique in that it was a mixed group with four guys and a girl. I didn't really know about this song until much later but the fact that Teen Top decided to even take it on just makes them cooler in my book.

Original 1993 Performance:

Girls' Generation - "T.O.P" (original by Shinhwa)
This performance is exactly why I like remakes and covers; Girls' Generation singing a Shinhwa song. I mean, I recognize the song of course but it's just such a different vibe that it seems totally different from the original. By the way, I think it's Tiffany on the far right end copying the infamous countdown that Shinhwa member Kim Dong Wan did on camera for one of their performances. The other cool thing about this performance is that Eric re-recorded the intro rap for this specific performance. Pretty cool.

Original 1999 Performance:

EXO - "We are the Future" (original by H.O.T)
EXO's take on "We are the Future" is actually really cool because it isn't just a remix of the original music but sounds like a totally modern version on what the song could have sounded like if it were made today. I still like the original better but this was a cool take on an old classic.

Original 1997 Performance:

4Minute Jiyoon - "Coming of Age Ceremony" (original by Park Ji Yoon)
This song has been remade many times, by both men and women, and is still one of the coolest songs that J.Y. Park has ever made. Jiyoon's version is maybe not as provocative as the original but she still brings the same sultriness and she puts on a great show.

Original Performance in 2000:

2AM - "Proposal" (original by Noel)
I'll end on my personal favorite ballad cover when 2AM sang their verion of Noel's "Propose" during a radio appearance a few years back. The fellas at 2AM can straight up sing and I almost like this version better than the original... almost.

Original Performance in 2004:

I'm always down for a good cover or remake version of an old hit so please, tell me about the ones I missed and I'm sure the other readers will thank you as well.

Se7en's past statements about celebrities and the army resurface

After Se7en and Sangchu's massage parlor incident, Se7en's past words about celebrities and the army have been gaining a lot of attention.

During a past interview he talked about the special exemption from military service that certain sports stars get to receive after achieving certain feats (ie: winning a medal in the Olympics). He stated, "Unlike sports stars, it's a problem that there's no set 'base' in place for celebrities. When sports stars get a medal, they receive a special exemption from military service, but it's all different for celebrities. There's nothing that says that once celebrities reach a certain point, they can receive a special exemption from serving like sports stars. I think the way Hallyu stars enhance the country is no different from the way sport stars do."

In “Poison,” Pink andCoE are shown as musicians who are popular with the local crowd, particularly the lady killer Pink (who looks like Charlie Chaplin with his hat). Baek Ah Yeon Reveals, 'No Regrets About JYP'

Baek Ah Yeon made the earliest debut as a professional artist among the top 3 artists who advanced to the final round of highly-touted first season of popular audition show 'K-Pop Star.' She has now come back with her second mini album featuring the title song "A Good Boy."
At a recent interview, Baek Ah Yeon revealed a few personal struggles and lessons learned from the past year as a professional musician.
"I used to think that I just need to sing well to be a singer. But your appearance matters a lot, too. I went on a strict diet and exercise regimen during my time off. It definitely was hard and still is difficult to keep such a high level of self-discipline but I have learned that it is part of my responsibility as a pubic figure. I am growing more used to it," said Baek Ah Yeon.
Asked about her decision to join JYP Entertainment, she said, "I really have no regrets whatsoever. I love the family-like environment here. MissA and 2PM members all supported me and rooted for me for my comeback. If I went to SM or YG, I might still be training."
"Park Jin Young (JYP) is the same on and off TV. No, actually, he is even more considerate and detail-oriented off TV. He told me pointers like keeping a smile on my face during performance."
About the constant comparisons made between her and Park Ji Min and Lee Hi, she commented, "We are very close and give one another lots of advice. We don't view each other as rivals but as friends. We hope that we all continue to do well."
She added, "After this album activity, I would like to make an album of self-written songs."

What does MBLAQ's Lee Joon think about the idol dating scene?

MBLAQ's Lee Joon shared his thoughts on the idol dating scene during the latest 'Incarnation'.

On the June 25th episode of the SBS talk show, Lee Joon commented, "[Because of what other people would think], I can't meet with more female idols. I can't say who exactly, but with a lot of idol singers, A and B will start dating, and then suddenly, A starts dating C and B starts dating D. It's like the wild animal kingdom... It's sort of embarrassing."

He went on, "If there's a fellow idol I'm close to and he breaks up with his girlfriend, it would be awkward if I start dating her without knowing that happened. I've never dated a female idol. There have been rumors, but I never have. I'm the type to get caught easily. I'd want to make it public."
