SABAH

SABAH, also known as “The Land Below The Wind”, is the northern part of Borneo and it is the second largest state in Malaysia. KOTA KINABALU is the state capital of Sabah, where much of the state remains forested. There are over 32 ethnic communities speaking 80 dialects in Sabah. The main festival here is Ka’amatan when the KadazanDusun, Sabah’s largest ethnic group, offer thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest to the spirit of the paddy. Activities include trekking, rafting, diving, mountain climbing and there are superb coasted resorts to relax in afterwards.

Dominating the landscape here is the iconic 4095m high Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain between the Himalayas and Irian Jaya. Located in Kinabalu National Park, the mountain and its surroundings are said to contain the world’s greatest floral biodiversity, earning a place in the UNESCO World Heritage Site listing.
